Saturday marked the second day of the National Winter Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign, and the Racine County Sheriff Office arrested four individuals for impaired driving Saturday evening into Sunday morning.
The first was reported at 8:16 p.m. in the Village of Raymond. A call came in for a report of a vehicle in the ditch. The individual who called it in felt the operator of the vehicle in the ditch might have been impaired due to slurred speech, and she repeatedly asked the person who stopped to not call the police. Deputies arrived on scene and after their investigation arrested Jacqueline Davison, 56, from Milwaukee, for first offense of operating while intoxicated.
At 11:36 p.m. dispatchers received a call from Franklin Police Department that they witnessed to a semi driver who knocked down roadway signs with his vehicle. The semi and driver were found in Franklin. Deputies investigated, which led to the arrest of Walter Beard, 69, of Las Vegas Nevada, for a first offense of operating while intoxicated, hit and run property damage adjacent to highway, and failure to notify police of an accident. The incident took place in the Village of Raymond.
The third incident occurred in Union Grove at 12:57 a.m. on Sunday. A deputy was on patrol in his assigned area when he came across a white Hyundai that was stalled in traffic with hazard lights on. After moving the vehicle off the roadway fresh damage was observed to the front of the vehicle, which was also leaking fluids. The operator, John McLain, 42, of Union Grove, advised he did not recall hitting anything while driving. The suspect displayed signs of intoxication including the odor of intoxicants. The suspect failed standardized field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated.
The fourth incident occurred in the Town of Dover at 2:21a.m. on Sunday. While on patrol a deputy observed a vehicle for going 60 miles per hours in a posted 35mph zone. At the stop the deputy found that the driver, Adam Polinski, 38, of Rochester, had a revoked Wisconsin driver’s license (revoked for prior OWI offenses). During the traffic stop and subsequent investigation Adam failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating with a restricted controlled substance offense.
As part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over holiday campaign, between Dec. 14 and Jan. 1, the Racine County Sheriff Office will patrol in greater numbers, and for longer hours, to arrest impaired drivers and get them off the road.
