A 24-year-old Racine woman was arrested after she led police on a high-speed chase through the City of Racine and the Village of Mount Pleasant at 12:34 a.m. Saturday.
Camary N. Herrington and an unnamed passenger were arrested by for knowingly fleeing and eluding a traffic officer.
According to a press release by the Mount Pleasant Police Department, an officer tried to stop Herrington — who was driving a silver Buick — for a traffic violation on Highway 11 near Gates Street. But as the officer turned on his lights and siren, Herrington sped away and the officer followed her through the side streets of Racine and Mount Pleasant.
“The Pursuit was 0.7 miles long with a top speed of 64 mph,” according to the press release.
Herrington pulled over on Hickory Grove Avenue, just north of Maryland Avenue, and a passenger fled on foot. Both were taken into custody and taken to the Racine County Jail.
“When asked why she did not stop, Herrington stated that the passenger told her to do it and that she did not know who the passenger was. She stated that she received $5 to give him a ride home,” the press release reads.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
