Officials with the Racine Police Department have released more information about a suspect being sought in an officer-involved shooting from Dec. 20 in the 1600 block of Boyd Avenue.
Hunter Hanson, 20, of Racine, is considered armed and dangerous. Driving a 1998 green/blue Chevrolet K1500 pickup truck, he sped toward a police officer, who shot his gun at Hanson’s car in an attempt to stop him, according to a press release by the Racine Police Department.
“If anyone knows of Hanson’s whereabouts or sees him please call the Racine Police Department. Do not approach,” the press release reads.
The press release did not relate what Hunter was wanted for.
However, court records indicate that Hanson was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office in November with speeding, operating a vehicle without insurance, and operating while revoked. He also has had several other closed traffic-related incidents, including driving with a suspended license, obstructing police, speeding, and failing to notify police of a car crash dating back to 2014.
Initial reports indicated that the officer responded at 8:23 p.m. Dec. 20 to where the “known wanted party” was reported to be. As the officer got out of his squad, the man got into his car and sped towards the officer. He shot at the car to stop him, but the man was able to get away and has not been found.
After the incident, Racine Police officer — a five-year veteran of the police department — was placed on administrative leave.
Racine County Eye has phone calls into the Racine Police Department to get an update on the status of the officer involved in the shooting.
