Firefighters with the Racine Fire Department are on scene at an apartment fire at the Woodside Village Apartments, which started at about 8:20 a.m. Saturday morning in the 2800 block of Crossridge Drive.
William Leverson, a witness, saw firefighters taking multiple children out of a second story bedroom, which is where he saw heavy black smoke was coming from.
“It appears that the firefighters are assembling into two different teams of some sort I cannot see any more heavy smoke coming from the building,” he said. “I have not witnessed any firefighters (go) into the building as of yet. It appears that there’s a discussion centered around the bedroom that I described as having the heavy black smoke emitting from.”
No word on the cause of the fire or the condition of the children. We’ll update this story when we receive more information.
