A man died Tuesday after a car crashed into him while he was riding a bicycle Monday night on Highway 32 near Hansche Road.

Teren Cagle, 18, of Racine, has been identified as the man who died.

Johnny Taylor, 71, of Kenosha, is facing a felony charge of hit and run, causing death. He is being held at the Racine County Jail in lieu of a cash bond, according to a press release by the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Officers responded to the area for a report of a man lying in the ditch at 10:46 p.m. Monday. Rescue workers from the South Shore Fire Department took the man to Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee. Police determined that Cagle, who was riding his bicycle southbound on Highway 32, was struck by a white Dodge Ram van. But the driver fled the scene.

They also found paint chips and vehicle parts with identification numbers at the scene.

Tuesday night officers located the vehicle and they believe Taylor was driving the van. Now in custody at the Racine County Jail, Taylor awaiting formal charges from the Racine County District Attorney’s Office, the press release reads.

This incident remains under investigation by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
