Electric Revolution
Burn It Down (self-released)
As local bands go, these guys are making some serious progress. After the release of an indie e.p. a few years ago, their line-up was in flux, in search of just the right puzzle pieces that would take them to the next level.
Bassist Chad Imler and guitarist Brock Betz now join vocalist Dave Lawson and drummer Billie Pulera, solidifying Electric Revolution into the equivalent of a jet engine of rock. Unlike most heavy modern bands, though, Electric Revolution is a band that wears its influences on its collective sleeve, writing material that is as catchy as prime Bad Company, and as shred-heavy as Steve Vai or Van Halen.
“Prelude-Rise Of The Revolution (Part 1)” a progressive instrumental, instantly reminded me of a Michael Schenker interlude, and “God And The Devil,” which begins with a bluesy choir, shows that this band is no one-trick pony. My fave of the set is “Runnin’ Away,” a real meat-and-potatoes ode to lost love.
As guitarists go, Betz is one of the tastiest I’ve heard. His playing is melodic, with just the right amount of shreddy goodness. Lawson & Pulera are a formidable rhythm section, yet manage to make even the heavier numbers sound soulful. As lead vocalist, Lawson has several approaches up his sleeve. In “No Time For Love,” he goes from a whisper to full-on scream in a heartbeat.
In short, these are four guys who play in such sync, they were absolutely meant to be together and make the music that they do. It should come as no surprise that they’ve shared stages with such luminaries as Pat Travers, Y&T, Angel, Wishbone Ash and Cheap Trick. Electric Revolution is legit.
