A Racine County Deputy on routine patrol in the Town of Kansasville Sunday evening at approximately 7 p.m. observed a Ford Taurus traveling at a high rate of speed, and well over the posted 25 mile-per-hour speed limit in a residential area.

The deputy stopped the vehicle, which was being operated by Nathan T. Hansen, 41, of Kansasville. The Deputy could smell the odor of intoxicants coming from Hansen and suspected him to be under the influence of alcohol, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Department.

Hansen refused to submit to field sobriety testing and was subsequently arrested for Operating While Intoxicated.  During the investigation, it was learned that Hansen left his 1-year-old child at home alone while he was reportedly going to buy tobacco from a gas station. Deputies responded to the residence where they found the child in its crib watching television. Racine County Child Protective Services assisted with returning the child to its mother.

Hansen has a lengthy record of operating while intoxicated and if convicted this will be his seventh offense.

Hansen was issued a traffic citation for unreasonable imprudent speed. He is being held at the Racine County Jail on felony operating while intoxicated and felony child neglect with a total bond of $17,500.
