A 68-year-old Mount Pleasant man is being held on a $100,000 cash bond after he was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy.
Roy P. Wright was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with: a felony count of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, exposing his genitals, second-degree sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age, sexual exploitation of a child, causing a child older than 13 years old to view/listen to sexual activity, and repeated sexual assault of a child.
If convicted of all charges, Wright faces up to 169 years in prison and/or fines up to $420,000.
According to the criminal complaint, Wright befriended a teen-aged boy who lived in the same apartment complex he did. The two played video games together and Wright started watching pornography in front of the boy. He then asked the boy for nude photographs, wrote sexual messages to him, and started touching the boy’s genitals.
At one point, Wright told the boy that having sex with him would cure his cancer. He also told the boy that he saved him from killing himself.
During an interview, Wright told investigators that he knew the boy was 14-years-old, that he “cared about him a lot” and that the boy was at his home often.
“When Wright was told about the messages between him and (the boy), Wright asked for a lawyer because he was going to jail,” the complaint reads.
A preliminary hearing has been set for 8:30 a.m. March 7 in front of Racine County Court Commissioner Alice Rudebusch.
