The Downtown Racine Corporation held a blanket drive on Monument Square during the Fire and Ice Festival on February 2 for citizens in need. Almost a third of the items were collected by Milaegers. Over 50 blankets and over 50 warm accessories (including mittens, gloves, scarves and coats) were collected – a variety consisting of new, used, and homemade.

The donated items that were collected were taken to the Racine County Jail where they were cleaned by Inmate Workers in the jail laundry room. Then the items were donated to H.A.L.O. and The Hospitality Center.

“We asked the community to come together to help those less fortunate during this bitter cold winter, and the response was tremendous. It was heart-warming seeing so many individuals drop off blankets during the festival, many of which were brand new,” said Kelly Kruse, the Executive Director of The Downtown Racine Corporation.
