Mount Pleasant, WI – No one was injured, but two people were arrested for driving while impaired in two separate but related incidents early Sunday morning.
Officers with the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the report of a car that had crashed into a home in the 4600 block of Spring Street at 2:35 a.m. Sunday, according to a press release.
The driver, Randy Strohkirch, 52, of Racine, drove his 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan at a high speed northbound on Ohio Street, and failed to stop for a stop sign. Making no attempt to slow down, the car went airborne, hit a curb, struck a road sign and vaulted over the guard rail. The car came to rest on the porch of the residence.
Strohkirch failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for operating while intoxicated (4th offense), failing to stop at a stop sign, inattentive driving and having open intoxicants.
As the officers blocked the westbound traffic on Spring at Illinois street, another car was seen driving in the opposite traffic lane. The officers stopped Jessica Lee Barker, 29, of Racine, the woman driving the car.During the stop, officers could smell marijuana coming from the car.
She too failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving while impaired and possession of marijuana — both municipal citations. Barker was released to a responsible party.
Mount Pleasant Police are still investigating the incident. Charges against Strohkirch have been referred to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.
“The Mount Pleasant Police Department would like to remind drivers not to drive impaired. We have noticed an increase in Drugged driving the past couple months,” the press release reads.
