A woman accused of being party to beating a couple in December was in court on Friday after she was brought in on a warrant for her arrest.
Faye Rocha, 20, of Racine, was charged in January by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office earlier this month with substantial battery-intended bodily harm, party to a crime. Brought into court Friday on a $1,000 warrant for her arrest, Rocha is being held on a $500 cash bond.
Juan Rocha, 39, of Racine, and Samantha Greathouse, 26, Racine, were charged in December with substantial battery. Greathouse was also charged with a domestic abuse enhancer. A fourth person was believed to have been involved, but those charges were dismissed.
If Faye, Greathouse and Juan are found guilty of the charge, they each face up to three years six months in prison and/or fines up to $10,000.
According to the criminal complaint, Racine Police responded to a report of a man being assaulted by two black men on Dec. 19 at his home at 1118 Marquette St. The man had been staying at the Knight’s Inn and had his girlfriend take him to his home to check on the water heater.
When he got to the house, he was “jumped” by two unnamed black men. They struck him in the face and kicked him. Bleeding from his right eyebrow, the man was taken to the hospital. The two black men left. Faye and Greathouse also fought with the victim’s girlfriend.
The victim told police he and the mother of his child had gotten into a fight on Facebook. That fight led to an argument and “the eventual injuries,” according to the complaint.
Juan denied that he assaulted the man. But another witness told police that Juan “had organized the assault and brought the two black males with him ‘to do the dirty work,’” the complaint reads.
A preliminary hearing has been set for Faye at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Racine County Law Enforcement Center.
Juan pleaded not guilty to the felony charge on Feb. 12. A jury trial is set for 1:30 p.m. April 2 in front of Racine County Circuit Court Judge Mark F. Nielsen.
Greathouse pleaded not guilty to charges in January. She is expected to have a status conference at 8:30 a.m. March 22.
