For the past several weeks I have been in a growth accelerator class for my business through WWBIC, which requires me to conduct 100 interviews over the course of 10 weeks. I am learning a lot from the business community to people who are experiencing homelessness about the skills gap/worker shortage here in Racine.

But I need more input to develop our content strategy.

My hypothesis: All too often people use job boards to find work, but there really isn’t a good place for news around employment. Racine County Eye wants to be that resource.

My focus: how does a news website help inform the community around an ever-changing labor market? What does the community need to know about the labor market? What keeps you from finding and keeping a job? What would make it easier? How can RCE become a resource for job-seekers and employers? And for employers, what value would you place on a highly engaged audience of job-seekers?

To gather more information, we are hosting an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Office at 410 Main Street to do some fact-finding around what the community needs to know. We’ll have several spaces for people to give us their ideas for news stories and resources.

If you are a job seeker, we’ll introduce you to our jobs board, employment page and offer sign-ups for our free employment newsletter. We’ll also highlight the first five job-seekers on our employment page in our Eye on Talent section. So be prepared to answer a few key questions.

If you are an employer, we’d love to talk with you about some of our sponsorship and advertising opportunities.

Some things we are considering… reverse job fairs, resource pages around transportation, a talent board featuring people, and business spotlights.

So stop by and let’s talk about how Racine County Eye can be your go-to source for news about the labor market.
