On March 18, 2019, the Racine County Communications Center took a call of a house fire located at 1220 13th Avenue, in the Village of Union Grove. Deputy Eric Schneider, along with other Racine County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival Deputy Schneider witnessed flames, heat, and billowing smoke coming out of the windows of the residence. He called into the residence to see if anyone was inside and, upon making contact with a resident of the dwelling who claimed that the house was still occupied by a person upstairs, entered the burning house to search for other occupants but could not go upstairs due to flames and smoke. Deputy Schneider continued to search and observed a person laying on the basement floor at the bottom of the stairs. This victim was unresponsive and barely breathing. Deputy Schneider was able to pull the victim out of the residence to safety. The victim was transported by Union Grove
Rescue to a local hospital for treatment.

Sheriff Christopher Schmaling and Speaker Robin Vos have chosen to commend Deputy Schneider for his actions that day by presenting him with citations today at 1:45 p.m. at the Racine County Sheriff’s Patrol Station. US Congressman Bryan Steil, Wisconsin State Senator Van
Wanggaard. and Racine County Executive Jonathan Delagrave will be in attendance as well.
