MOUNT PLEASANT, WI – No one was injured in a car chase involving a Kansasville man that happened Saturday night and resulted in three law enforcement vehicles being damaged during the pursuit.
Aaron Kimberly, 41, was arrested for fleeing and eluding a traffic officer, hit and run, recklessly endangering safety, six counts of bail jumping and a probation hold in Mount Pleasant. He also faces multiple charges in Kenosha County.
Car chase started in Kenosha County
According to a press release by the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department started the pursuit at 9:31 p.m. Saturday near state highways 32 and KR. Officers with MPPD set out spike strips on highways KR and 32 to stop Kimberly.
Driving over the spike strips, two of the four tires on his car went flat. But Kimberly continued driving at speeds of 20 to 30 mph. Officers laid out more spike strips out at Highway 32 and Highway 11, which struck all four tires. Kimberly continued to drive.
Because he was driving towards Racine — which has a higher population and an increased chance of crashing into a pedestrian — the officer intentionally crashed into Kimberly’s car near Racine Street.
“The vehicle spun and then continued to drive southbound in the northbound lanes and driving onto the sidewalk for a short period of time,” the press release reads.
Kimberly accelerated and intentionally crashed the car he was driving into another Mount Pleasant squad near Highway 32 and Highway 11.
“At this point, the vehicle was going westbound in the eastbound lanes of State Highway 11,” the press release reads. “Mount Pleasant Police then rammed and pinned the vehicle to terminate its forward momentum. The driver was then taken into custody and turned over to Kenosha Sherriff’s Department.”
Deputies with the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department also submitted charges against Kimberly including:
- Operating a vehicle without insurance
- Not installing an ignition interlock device
- Operating a vehicle while revoked
- Operating a vehicle after suspension of registration
- Bail jumping
- Fleeing and eluding a police officer
Formal charges have not been filed with either jurisdiction as of Sunday afternoon, according to court records.
