Every wine has a story, whether it is the winemaker, the region or the people that make it. Each month we will feature four wines that we sell at Uncorkt and make them available to sample on the third Friday of each month. This month our complimentary tasting is from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 21st. If you are so inclined, you may then enjoy a glass at our wine bar for $5 or purchase a bottle of wine at 15% off the normal retail price, that day. Enjoy!

Kettmeir

Our first two wines come from Kettmeir vineyard founded in 1919 by Giuseppe Kettmeir. The winery has remained true to ancient local traditions while adapting to the needs of the modern age. Located in the hills of Alto Adige, a unique and beautiful region in the Alpine north of Italy, this superb territory has ideal conditions for grape cultivation: a range of soil types, altitudes, and temperatures.

The first wine is a Pinot Bianco. Its straw yellow colour leads us into a floral fragrance of wisteria and a fruity sensation of green apples. The flavour is dry, with good acidity, and it is persistent and delicately mineral. This wine is ideally paired with light appetizers and it is also excellent with freshwater fish, seafood soups and asparagus.

The second wine variety is Müller-Thurgau, which is straw-yellow colour with an intense, aromatic nose of nutmeg, nettle and peach. The taste is fresh and full with a lengthy palate. Very good as an aperitif, also goes well with seafood risotto, grilled fish and fried food in general.

Primo Scuro, Rosso Cannonau Di Sardegna DOC

All of our Cantina Mesa wines are made with fruits from Sardinian grape varieties. The name Mesa, which in both Sardinian and in Spanish means table, sums up in just four letters the very soul of the winery. Nourishment, a meal among friends, simplicity, and fragrant odors of the Sardinian earth.

The Cannonau grape is moderate ruby in color, with generous aromas of wild ripe red fruits and spice. On the palate this wine has more body than the color would indicate with round acidity, supple tannins and warm finish. This wine pairs well with cold cuts, fatty fishes, grilled meats and soft cheeses.

Leda ‘Truffle Hunter’ Barbera D’Asti

Leda is made by the Bosio family in honor of their loyal truffle hunting dog. The family named this wine in her honor so her legacy and story will live on each time a bottle is opened and a glass is toasted. The Luca Bosio Vineyards, now in its third generation, was established in 1967 by farmers Egidio and Angela. The winery is located in the center of the Langhe region of Piedmont, Italy.

The ruby red color of this Barbera shows ample red fruit on the nose. It has silky tannins that give it a smooth mouthfeel. This “easy-to-drink” wine has a freshness and approachability that makes it a great wine for even the casual wine consumer. This wine is a perfect accompaniment to chicken or pork, as well as an array of Italian cheeses, pastas or risotto. As its namesake, it is a fantastic pairing with truffles!

Stop at Uncorkt from 5 t0 7 p.m. on Friday, June 21st for a complimentary sampling of these four great wines. Again, if you desire you can enjoy a full glass of any of these wines for only $5 or purchase a bottle for 15% off the normal retail price. Cheers!
