MOUNT PLEASANT, WI – An elderly woman was hospitalized with a facial fracture after she was beaten by a man at a residence Friday afternoon.
Augie Marsh, 58, of Mount Pleasant, was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with aggravated battery (elderly person), substantial battery, possession of drug paraphernalia, and disorderly conduct. If convicted of all charges, Marsh faces up to 10 years in prison and/or fines up to $21,700.
According to the criminal complaint, an officer with the Village of Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to a report of an elderly woman being beaten at 4:10 p.m. Friday at 4312 Durand Avenue. The woman told police that she and Marsh lived together 10 years ago and for the past five years at her current address.
Marsh had asked her for a ride, but when she refused the two started arguing. He flipped over the coffee table and the glass shattered. During the argument, Marsh then struck her face and head with a closed fist about six times. The left side of her face was swollen. Her eye was almost completely shut and she bled from the mouth. Doctors told the officer that the woman had facial fractures.
During the investigation, officers learned that Marsh had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. They went to his house and arrested him. Searching him, they found a pipe used to smoke crack in his left pocket.
Marsh is being held at the Racine County Jail on a $750 cash bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for 8:30 a.m. June 27 in the Racine County Law Enforcement Center, 717 Wisconsin Avenue.
