Do you remember running down the stairs on Christmas morning? If you were like most children, you couldn’t wait to get your parents up, and dash into the room where your Christmas tree was. Wrapping paper flying, screams of joy and surprise, great food, family surrounding you; it was truly a magical day.
More than one million children in the United States (Per OKC Fox25) are being raised by their grandparents. In many cases health issues, drug addiction, incarceration and mental health issues are the reason parents decide not to, or are not able to raise their own children. Some of the families in our community are raising more than five grandchildren, and are on a very tight budget.
Operation Christmas Cheer wants to bring the joys of Christmas to our Kinship Care families in Racine County. Last year, we were able to, in partnership with Living Light Christian Church, provide over 500 Christmas gifts, New pajamas and socks to the children, along with a Christmas party – pizza, face painting, cookie decorating, Christmas music, and games.
This year, in partnership with Culver’s on I-94 and HWY 20, we will be having Christmas in July. For the entire month of July, bring a NEW toy to the Culver’s restaurant, and receive a FREE meal coupon. Your donation provides the joy of Christmas to children in Foster-Kinship Care, Group Homes, or a child whose parent is incarcerated.
These toys will go towards Operation Christmas Cheer 2019, where once again we will hold a Christmas party for our Kinship Care families.
