RACINE, WI – A man led police on a short foot chase Tuesday afternoon while they were trying to arrest him for possession of methamphetamine.
Kye Bass, 44, of Racine, was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office Wednesday with possession of methamphetamine and obstructing a police officer. If convicted of both charges, Bass faces up to seven years nine months in prison and/or fines up to $20,000.
An officer with the Racine Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Bass for having a suspended license plate. When the officer spoke with Bass, he noticed the smell of marijuana. The officer searched Bass and found three pills. The officer didn’t arrest him right away because he didn’t know what kind of pills they were.
Conducting a narcotics test, the officer learned the pills tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine. While returning to Bass to arrest him, he ran from the officer.
Jumping a number of fences, the officers found and arrested Bass in the yard at 1715 N. Main Street. During a search of his car, officers found Gangster Disciple materials, four cell phones and an ID card.
Racine County Court Commissioner Alice Rudebusch set a $250 cash bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for 9 a.m. July 24.
