Racine Heritage Museum’s, 701 Main Street, newest feature exhibit But Wait…There’s More! will open during August’s First Friday event! Founded by Ron Popeil in 1964, Ronco was well-known for its “must have” products touted by Popeil himself in commercials for over 50 years. Ronco, and its founder, products were true pop culture icons. The exhibit is based on Tim Samuelson’s book of the same title. This exhibit features well known and nostalgic Ronco products from a private collection. The Museum will be open until 8 p.m. on First Friday for the exhibit opening. The exhibit is sponsored in part by generous grants from SC Johnson and the Racine Community Foundation.
August 2nd looks good for First Friday! Uncorkt at 240 Main Street will have $5 glasses of “featured wines” plus the lowest bottle craft beer prices in downtown Racine. Also, starting at 6 p.m. they will have FREE wine tasting at the back of the store. Their musical treat this month is The Gary T. Ricchio band providing 70’s and 80’s cover songs to dance too. They’ll have the door open between them and their new neighbor The Egg Plant Cafe, so you can enjoy some food along with the drinks from Uncorkt. Visitors enjoy free RAM, 441 Main Street, admission and extended hours from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, August 2. The Patio Bar will be open from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., selling beer and wine. For the current exhibition, Represent: Exploring Portraits from RAM’s Collection, six articulated paper dolls and nine framed paper dolls from Milwaukee artist Kierston Ghaznavi are juxtaposed with contemporary portrait photography, jewelry, and sculpture. Her work offers a look at personal and social identity with a focus on black pop culture, positive imagery of black women, and self-love. During RAM’s Free Family Hands-On Art Project on August 2, 4 – 8 p.m., artist Ghaznavi and the RAM education team invite visitors to learn how she created the work now on display in Represent. In this rare opportunity, Ghaznavi will lead guests through a demonstration and art lesson during which they can make handcrafted paper dolls inspired by hers. On First Friday’s in the RAM Museum Store, all Hobo Handbags are 40% off, all Saro Scarves are 30% off, and all Origin Jewelry is 20% off. There is a bonanza of other sales in the Store to clear out the old and make way for the new. Shop early because the selection is limited!
