MOUNT PLEASANT, WI – A 70-year-old Racine man was struck while riding his bicycle early Tuesday morning along State Highway 32, which rendered him unconscious.
Mount Pleasant Police and the South Shore Fire Department responded to a crash between a motorist and a bicyclist shortly after 6 a.m. The unconscious man was taken to a local hospital and taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee to be treated for life-threatening injuries. Mount Pleasant police and the State Highway Patrol are investigating the crash, which closed southbound traffic along state Highway 32 at Larson Street for about three hours.
The bicyclist was wearing a helmet and reflective clothing and had rear and front lights activated at the time of the crash. Lighting conditions were dark when the crash occurred.
Emergency services were called by the motorist involved in the crash, who was not injured. The motorist waited for emergency personnel to arrive. A witness gave police a statement shortly after the crash.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be factors of the crash. No citations have been issued yet.
