RIVER BEND NATURE CENTER, October 6th , 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Looking for volunteers for our 7th annual Chainsaw Carving & Art Festival. This is a fun event, and a great way to enjoy the fall weather. Volunteers are needed for shifts starting at 8:30am until 3 p.m. Tasks include ticket sales, food service, children’s activities, and directing parking. HALO, October 12th , 2 p.m.-5 p.m.., Moose Lodge, 5530 Middle Road, Racine WI. The guests play Bunco and so are seated, so we need runners to fetch drinks and pizza and bring them to their tables. 2-4 Volunteers 21 or over are needed for the jello-shot runs, but we will also need 2-4 volunteers over 18 to do pizza runs.
RACINE URBAN GARDEN NETWORK, October 19th , 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Ruby Garden, 3825 Erie St. Shifts are: 9-11:30 a.m. or 11:30-2 p.m. Activities include cleaning out beds, spreading cardboard and compost for new beds, moving our shed to a different location, and cleaning out our water tank. AWESOME YOUNG AUTHORS LUNCHEON, November 23rd put on by the Victorious Women Outreach at Infusino’s Banquet Hall in Racine, WI. Time of event is from 12 noon – 3 p.m., volunteers are needed for setup, take down, check-in desk and greeters. Thank you in advance for considering helping us with our community event. SENIOR MEDICARE PATROL WI, HELP EDUCATE MEDICARE BENEFICIARIES IN WI
Current SMP volunteer roles include:
- Information distributor: This role involves transporting and disseminating information materials to sites and events, and may include presenting prepared copy or performing scripted activities for small groups. Volunteers who work in this role do not engage in discussions with others about personal information or situations. It is not considered to be a position of trust.
- Exhibitor: This role involves staffing information kiosks or exhibits at events such as health fairs. Volunteers who staff exhibits provide general information about the program to the public and answer basic questions. It is a position of trust.
- Presenter: This role involves giving substantive presentations to small and large groups, with the opportunity for interaction with the audience during time set aside for Q & A and discussion. It is a position of trust.
*Position of trust is defined as any role that involves access to at least one of: beneficiaries or other vulnerable people, such as family members, personal or confidential information, money or other valuables. Positions of trust are subject to significantly more rigorous screening inquiries.

VETERANS TREATMENT COURT OF 2 ND JD, WE NEED VOLUNTEER VETRANS TO MENTOR VETERANS
These are the requirements:
- Must be a veteran of the U.S. Military.
- Adhere to 2nd Judicial District Veterans Court Program policies and procedures
- Be Familiar with Veterans Affairs service and veterans community resources
- Serve as an advocate and role model for a veteran in the Veterans Court Program
- Attend training and court sessions, if and when needed
- Interact respectfully and professionally with other veterans and staff
- Must agree to serve for one year or more

OCR Text Editor Volunteer for Audio and Braille Literacy Enhancement (ABLE), times and location vary: Time commitment of 3-5 hours/week for duration of at least four months. Training will be provided. With your help, ABLE can more quickly convert print into braille and audio formats, so that blind children and adults can have equal access to a world of information. On-site volunteers will learn to use the program “ABBYY FineReader” to perform OCR (Optical Character Recognition) on images of print. At-home volunteers will just edit the Word document output from ABBYY to match the original text (saved as a PDF file). Many assignments may have tight deadlines so that students can receive their school assignments at the same time as their sighted peers.
