RACINE COUNTY, WI — Authorities in Caledonia say the Highway 32 upgrade project is progressing as planned, however the tendencies of some local drivers has drawn the attention of Caledonia Police.
According to Caledonia Police, they’ve noticed that drivers are cutting through on Six Mile Road even though the road is closed. Police said the Six Mile Road intersection will be blocked off to prevent any disruptive traffic from slowing and/or damaging the work in progress.
“Please stop using Six Mile as a short cut, the project is not done, you are in violation of Village Ordinance 10-1-23 when you drive through a closed roadway, police wrote on their official Facebook page.
“If your only reason for going around the barricades is to get ‘over there’ or ‘just down the street’ or ‘I don’t know any other way home’ after living here for 10 years, or ‘my GPS told me to go this way’ or any other excuse that we have been told, please use the detour,” police said.
Caledonia Police said they’ve also stopped several drivers for failing to stop at the stop signs at Highway 32 and Five Mile Road. “This intersection is still in the construction zone and fines are doubled for any violation there,” police said.

South Box Culvert
Last of the base is being poured today, walls to be done tomorrow, back fill on Thursday, grading to be started on Friday. WE Energies is scheduled for a a gas main installation on 10/21.
Curbs
Starts next week.
Road Milling
Starts on Friday from north to south, expect increased truck traffic in the area as they haul out the milled surface.
Ditches
95 percent done by the end of the week.
Paving
Scheduled to start next week from north to south. Six mile road intersection will be blocked off to prevent any disruptive traffic from slowing and/or damaging the work in progress.
Traffic Signals
Last base is being poured for the signals at Six Mile/Douglas intersection.
