RACINE COUNTY, WI — A semi truck fire has I-94 traffic at a standstill in Racine and southern Milwaukee Counties Wednesday morning.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, a semi truck caught fire on I-94 near Highway G at just after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Authorities have the northbound lanes of I-94 closed at Highway G north to about Oakwood Road as cleanup crews tend to the scene.
Backups stretch north to about Drexel Ave. in Oak Creek, and south past Highway K in Racine County.
Traffic reports indicate that a lot of motorists are making use of frontage roads and surface streets to make their way around the congestion.
According to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, to avoid the fire, the alternative route will be I-94 to Highway G, take Highway G west to 27th Street, 27th North to Ryan Road, go east on Ryan road back to I-94.

10:15 am UPDATE: The interstate has reopened at County Highway G in Racine County. Two of three lanes of northbound traffic remain closed in Milwaukee County at Oakwood Rd. Interstate related traffic congestion is expected for the next several hours. All southbound lanes of traffic are open.
