A Caledonia man is being held on a felony battery and two misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges after he beat a woman and smashed her face against a bed frame Saturday at his residence.
William C. Vague, 40, was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office Wednesday with substantial battery and two counts of disorderly conduct. If convicted of all three charges, Vague faces up to four years in prison and/or fined up to $12,000.
According to the criminal complaint, an officer with the Caledonia Police Department responded to a report of civil trouble after Vague was pushed out of a car. When police arrived, they found that Vague had a six-inch cut on his back and his shirt “was covered in blood.” The officer noted that the wound was clean and looked as though someone may have stabbed him with a knife.
When rescue personnel from the Caledonia Fire Department transported Vague to the hospital, he refused to answer questions.
The car that he was in listed to a residence in Caledonia. When police showed up to the house, they found that a woman had a bruise under her left eye, several scratch marks on her face, stitches that went from her left nostril to the edge of her lips, and bruising on her lips, the report reads.
The woman told police that Vague “did this to her” at 7 a.m. Saturday morning.
Vague, who had been drinking, and the woman had been arguing when he “became out of control.” He struck the woman and she fell. Vague then shoved the woman and hit her face on the bed frame.
The officer asked the woman why she didn’t report the incident. She said that Vague would have been upset and she didn’t want him to get into trouble. She reported to the office that Vague is controlling and gets “argumentative and violent when he does not have control,” according to the report.
The woman stated that Vague, who was “upset over some strawberries” threatened to jump out of the car. The woman slowed down. But he jumped out of the car before she could come to a complete stop.
Vague is being held on a $2,000 cash bond. He is expected back in court at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 27 in Racine County Felony Court.
