RACINE COUNTY, WI — A 23-year-old Kenosha man has been arrested after authorities say he drove drunk, ran into a semi-truck on I-41, then kept driving after one of the wheels fell off his car just after the collision.
According to the Racine County Sheriff’s office, authorities learned that a vehicle collided with a semi-truck on I-41 near Durand Ave. at just after 2 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21. A witness said the vehicle fled the scene of the accident and lost a tire as it drove away.
Sheriff’s officials said local deputies tracked down the vehicle – as it wasn’t hard to spot. The front driver’s side wheel well area was sparking as the vehicle scuttled along Highway E in Kenosha County. Authorities said the vehicle made it just over four miles before it was pulled over.
Authorities pulled the vehicle over, and 23-year-old Drew Stanton was arrested on suspicion of his first drunken driving offense. He was also arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, reckless driving among other traffic violations.
Stanton was transported and briefly held in the Racine County Jail prior to charging.
