Escape the dreary Wisconsin winter with a trip to the magical land of Oz in “The Wizard of Oz” at the Racine Theatre Guild Friday, December 13 through Sunday, December 22.
Dorothy Gale is tired of her unexciting life in Kansas and dreams of a world full of new adventures. When a twister sweeps her away over the rainbow, she begins a journey down the Yellow Brick Road to get back home. Along the way, she meets good and bad witches, animals that talk, and scarecrows that walk. With a new group of friends, ruby slippers, and her brains, heart, and courage in tow, Dorothy discovers an important lesson: there’s no place like home.
Based on the classic 1939 movie, “The Wizard of Oz” follows Dorothy (Jenna Zeihen) as she meets all kinds of creatures in Oz including the Scarecrow (Robert Kroes), Tinman (Ian Anderson), and Lion (Norgie Metzinger), along with Glinda (Dawn Pachniak) and the Wicked Witch (Jamie Johnson). She soon discovers that she misses Aunt Em (Karen Magee) and Uncle Henry (Michael Kroes), back in Kansas, but needs the help of Oz himself (Rick Richter), to make it home.
Additional featured cast are Paul Marquez, Ryan Simonsen, Jared Simonsen, Isabel Young, Cora Ficklen, Ella Cimbalnik, Juliana Garcia-Malacara, Ben Johnson, Charlie Cimbalnik, Eli Cushman, Paolo Wood, Maxwell Starks, Alaina Prochniak, Leah Starks, Kaleah Allen, Loghan Simonsen, Katelyn Christensen, Bernie Hoff, Anika Pachniak, Simone Prendergast, Noel Propsom, and Mariana Wood. The show is also supported by a large crew of costumers, set builders, technicians, and production members.
“The Wizard of Oz” is sponsored by SC Johnson and runs weekends December 13 to 22. Performances take place Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $15 for students. Further savings are offered to groups of 12 or more.
