Answer: Caledonia Trustee#4
In thinking about your election bid, what top three issued need to be addressed?*:
Answer:
Strengthen open and transparent government, encouraging citizen involvement
Encouraging more Development, including revising and simplifying our commercial codes to be business-friendly, in selected areas-in I-94 area, TIDs, Franksville and along Douglas Avenue, for an improved tax base.
Careful consideration of combining fire and/or park services with Mt. Pleasant and Sturtevant
How would you plan to address those issues?*:
Answer:
Planning Commission and public hearings on rezoning and Land Use Plan changes scheduled to allow the public to be informed and provide input to Board so changes are possible to address legitimate concerns before Board votes
Take a careful close look at why development is occurring on I-94 north and south of us, but we still have TID 4-Deback Farms unfilled; work with developers on TID5(old Western Publishing and O.Brown school site)
Look carefully with a view to combining fire service with Mt.Pleasant and Sturtevant, for improved service. Combining parks may be more complicated.
In reference to those issues you have identified, what would success look like to you in making an impact?*:
Answer:
Citizens and developers attending Planning Commission and Village Board meetings, voicing concerns, and believing concerns are heard, mutually respected and may be addressed
Enhanced development on I-94, in TID4 and in TID5, on Douglas Avenue and in Franksville, a business-friendly reputation for development in those areas
A combined fire service with better service with no increase in cost, which our fire chief has said he believes can be done. It’s time to move forward.
Why are those issues important to you?*:
Answer: I love Caledonia-it’s a special and unique place. I want an improved tax base, with quality of life in our unique and wonderful combination of urban and rural, parks, open space, homes, and shops
At the end of your term, what would you like to have accomplished?*:
Answer: Village practices encouraging maximum citizen involvement, TIDs up and running successfully for an improved tax base, Land use Plan updated, culture of “yes we can, Caledonia proud!”
Why should people vote for you?*:
Answer: It’s well known that the best decisions are made when those deciding have different backgrounds and experiences. I’m the only Trustee or candidate with independent business experience-running my own successful business. That’s a different perspective. I’m an independent thinker and don’t follow any party line. The skills I earned in my 30 plus years of law practice-looking carefully at facts, analyzing priorities, listening to and considering all viewpoints before deciding, negotiating compromises fit well with what we’re asked to do as Trustees-make decisions foe the benefit of the whole Village. Quality of life, controlled taxes, involved citizens and transparent government are high priorities for me.
