What is your current profession? Registered Nurse; Business Owner

What position are you applying for? Village President

What motivated you to seek out this seat? I was asked by residents in the village to consider running for the Village of Sturtevant President. After speaking with my family and much consideration I decided to run to represent the people of Sturtevant. Further, I had answered my countries call by serving in the U.S. Army, now I am answering the call to serve my community.

Why do you think you are a good candidate for the job? I have served in a leadership position in the U.S. Army. Since my discharge I have participated in leadership programs. This includes the Leadership Racine program. During this program we learned about Servant Leadership. Servant Leadership stresses the importance of listening, and to serve others before self. I have used this philosophy to grow our family business. The experience of growing a business from initial start up to where we are today demonstrates that it works. I believe what I have learned, and the experience I have gained using these leadership techniques will assist me in being a great candidate.

Name three things you would like to see change with how things are being done.

  1. Community Involvement in the Village of Sturtevant government. This involvement will assist the Village Board in making decisions that are beneficial to the residents of Sturtevant.
  2. Fiscal Responsibility, the residents of the village work hard for their money. We are not elected with an open wallet of the village. We must spend only which is beneficial to the residents of the village, at the lowest possible cost.
  3. Government Accountability, this is imperative to ensure that the village government is performing to a high standard. This accountability will allow the village board to represent the Village of Sturtevant in the manner of which the residents choose, or be voted out.

What resources would you need to have to accomplish that? The greatest resource we have to accomplish these goals is each other. All seven members of the Village of Sturtevant board coming together equally to solve problems with an open ear and open mind. Representing the residents of Sturtevant with a positive attitude and a can do spirit. This resource would then become unstoppable and many good things would be accomplished for the Village of Sturtevant.

What would success look like and how would you measure that success? Success is not measured in the accomplishment of personal goals. Because success is only measured by the people that you were elected to represent. Success is then measured by the re-election from the people of Sturtevant. The village residents will determine if we were successful in listening and accomplishing what they elected us to do.

How would you seek buy-in from either the community and/or your colleagues to accomplish those tasks? First and foremost everyone needs to be able to speak and be heard without condemnation. As a village board, we need to listen to everyone’s thoughts and ideas. We do not always have to agree on everything but we do need to listen. This is how good decisions are developed. This is the arena of ideas. Teamwork as a government entity is how things get done. Therefore, one person alone can not perform all the necessary components of government. Working together towards a common goal is. We all have a job to do. So, lets do this job to the best of our abilities and represent our constituents well.

What characteristics do you bring to the table to accomplish those tasks? I am a strong advocate for teamwork. I have seen firsthand how working together towards that common goal yields success. TEAM means Together, Everyone, Achieves, More. I truly believe that. I am also aware that I do not know everything and I am willing to listen to everyone. Further, I have a desire to learn what I do not know. Ask questions for the things I do not understand or may need clarification on. This is not a weakness, but a willingness to be the best that I can be for the betterment of our village.
