Pulaski used 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to help dispatch Brookfield Central 30-25 on August 27 in Wisconsin football.
“They had a good game plan on both sides of the ball,” Brookfield Central head coach Joel Nellis said. “We faced some adversity with those long runs and turnovers, but we also had opportunities of our own to capitalize on and we didn’t take advantage of them.”
After the Lancers forced a safety, Pulaski answered with an 80-yard rushing touchdown from Aaron Maroszek before Brookfield Central’s Tanner Wallen connected from 39 yards out to cut the lead to 7-5. Pulaski’s Maverick Cole and Brookfield’s Robert Bloom both added touchdowns as Pulaski went in to the locker room with a 14-12 lead.
In the third quarter, Brookfield Central retook the lead as Bloom connected with receiver Davis Peacock on a 35-yard touchdown pass to take a 18-14 lead. Pulaski responded with 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter including rushing touchdowns from Maroszek and Cole before Bloom connected with Alex Lortscher on a 16-yard touchdown pass for the game’s final score.
Bloom led the Lancers’ passing attack going 5-for-8 for 74 yards with two touchdowns, one interception, and one rushing touchdown. Drew Edmond led the Brookfield Central rushing attack with 67 yards on 19 carries, while Ben Otto led the way defensively with eight total tackles.
“I thought Drew and Ben, who are two way players, do a great job for us,” Nellis siad. “They work hard to be prepared each week for everything we throw at them. I thought outside linebacker John Donoghue stepped up and did a lot of dirty work for our defense.”
Pulaski had two rushers go over 100 yards as Maroszek ran for 146 yards on 15 carries, while Cole ran for 116 yards on 11 carries. Max Burdette and Jake Adams led defensively as both had 11 tackles in the game.
“The single wing offense is a dynamic offense and with 3-4 possible ball carriers, it’s very difficult to defend,” Nellis said of Pulaski’s rushing attack. “They did some things we hadn’t seen in the running game and they mixed up the carriers pretty well. Those backs run really hard and make it tough to tackle.”
Brookfield Central falls to 0-2 on the season, and will take on West Allis Hale this week at home.
“We have to regroup and put the non-conference schedule behind us and go compete to win our conference. It’s going to be a tough task, but we’re up for the challenge,” Nellis said.
