Franklin quarterback Myles Burkett showed Badgers fans a glimpse of the future Friday night against Kenosha Bradford. The future Wisconsin commit threw for three touchdowns with only six incompletions on route to a 42-3 win over the Red Devils on the road.
“He’s special and he has the world at his fingertips,” Franklin head coach Louis Brown said. “He’s got a two great running backs, a senior offensive line, and three returning receivers. Just spread it out and get the ball in their hands as our receivers our special and you saw that.”
After forcing an interception on Bradford’s first drive, Franklin quarterback Myles Burkett and the Sabers offense responded two plays later as Burkett connected on a 39-yard touchdown pass to Keaton Arendt to grab a 7-0 lead. On the ensuing drive, the Red Devils offense stalled at the nine yard line as kicker Erick Villalobos connected on a 26-yard field goal to get Bradford’s lone score of the game with 1:40 to go in the first quarter.
In the second and third quarters, both Burkett and running back Terrence Shelton had two touchdowns apiece. Burkett connected on a 14-yard touchdown pass to Reece Osgood and a 62-yard connection with Arendt, while Shelton added two one-yard touchdown runs in both quarters.
The Red Devils were able to move the ball on the Sabers throughout the game as they had three drives of eight plays or more including one drive where they had a successful fake punt run.
“We didn’t do ourselves any favors as we made some mistakes defensively, and offensively we had a hard time moving the ball,” Kenosha Bradford head coach Gaz Osmani said.
With 1:40 to go in the game, Franklin’s backup Boston Halloran made the most of his time at quarterback with a 15-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring.
Burkett went 13-for-19 in the win for 257 yards passing with three touchdowns and threw his lone interception on the season during the game. Shelton led the Sabers rushing attack with 13 carries for 66 yards, while Arendt had three receptions for 124 yards to lead Franklin in receiving.
“We got two really good running backs with him and Tanner Rivard as they are both strong, physical and fall forward. He is awfully special,” Brown said of his rushing attack. “When the weather gets bad and the snow starts flying, we got to count on those two for sure.”
Bradford quarterback Nate Olson led the Red Devils’ passing attack with 144 yards on 14-for-28 passing with three interceptions. Keany Parks led the rushing attack with 15 carries for 80 yards, while both Christian Crump and Quinton Henry both had five receptions for the Red Devils.
“We tried to get Keany going right away in the game, but we knew that they were going to be tough up front,” Osmani said. “We got him going a little bit at the end, but Keany is going to give us 120 percent no matter what and he is an all around great football player.”
Franklin takes on rival Oak Creek in a battle for the Southeast Conference crown next week as they look to stay undefeated, while Bradford takes on crosstown rival Indian Trail on the road next week.
