Racine Park’s Trey Carothers could not be contained Friday night as the junior running back ran for four touchdowns in a 34-30 comeback win over Kenosha Tremper.

“Trey Carothers just wants to win. We moved him to quarterback, and he responded in a major way, ” Racine Park head coach Morris Matsen said. “Down 24-6, the team continued to believe in each other and refused to give up.”

Kyle Holm helped Tremper grab a 12-6 lead with two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter. The senior began the scoring with a six yard touchdown run and responded to a Park’s 84 yard kickoff return from Sean White with a 53-yard score to regain the lead.

Cash Raethke helped extend the Trojans’ lead with touchdown passes to Dezmund White and Jordan Parker to grab a 24-6 lead with 2:07 remaining in the first half. Carothers made the Tremper defense pay as he responded with three straight touchdown runs to give Park a 26-24 lead with 7:35 remaining in the third quarter.

Holm used a one-yard touchdown run to regain the lead for the Trojans with less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter. Carothers ended his rushing dominance with a six-yard touchdown run with 10:18 left for the game’s final score.

Carothers led Park with 231 yards rushing on 32 carries, and also had 87 yards through the air with one interception in the win. Raethke led the Trojans with 155 yards passing with two touchdowns and one interception, while Holm led the team in rushing with six carries for 71 yards in the loss.

With the win, Racine Park gets their first win of the season, while Tremper falls to 3-4 with the loss. Tremper travels to Franklin, while Park takes on Bradford next week.

“We have to be gap sound and get 11 players to the ball on defense,” Matsen said. “Offensively, I’m sure Bradford has a plan in place to contain Carothers, so we will need to spread the ball around to our other backs and receivers.”
