Pewaukee got a boost from Carter Pearson as the junior ran for three touchdowns in their win over Wauwatosa West on Friday night in week eight action. Pearson ran for 102 yards on only eight carries in the 21-16 victory at home.

“We have always known Carter was going to be great for us, and Friday is the first of many big games for him,” Pewaukee head coach Justin Friske said. “To step up like that in a critical game, with a lot on the line, speaks to his desire to help the team and make his mark.”

With 6:02 remaining in the first quarter, Jaylan Brown got the scoring going with a 44-yard rushing touchdown to give Tosa West the 8-0 lead. Pearson responded to the first score of the game with a first quarter rushing touchdown of five yards and a 23-yard score to give Pewaukee a 14-8 lead at the half. 

With 7:28 to go in the third quarter, Tosa West used a 12 yard rushing touchdown from senior Waquon Kelly and a successful two point conversion run from Avery Dixon to regain a 16-14 lead. Pearson responded with the final score of the game with a 61-yard touchdown run to give Pewaukee the 21-16 lead with 5:56 to go in the third quarter. 

“For us to respond like we did to their scores and eventually jump ahead for good speaks to the toughness our kids displayed on Friday, and their desire to make sure the game ended up in their favor,” Friske said of responding to Wauwatosa West’s scores in the win. “To be a great team, that’s what you have to do.  To beat a great team, it’s imperative to stay calm and focus on executing your stuff.  Our guys were able to do that, and it speaks to their toughness.”

In addition to Pearson’s day on the ground, Brown led both teams in rushing with 143 of Tosa West’s 257 rushing yards. Pewaukee was led defensively by Max Sheridan with 13 tackles as he was one of three defenders with double digit tackles for Pirates in the win. 

Both teams go to 6-2 on the season. Both teams have home games in the final week of the regular season as Pewaukee takes on Milwaukee Lutheran and Tosa West takes on New Berlin West.

“I expect the game to be very tough, and for us to do well, we’ll have to limit their big play potential and handle their aggressive, blitzing defense,” Friske said of Pewaukee’s final game of the regular season.  “It’s a critical game for us with regard to the playoffs, and we still have lots of areas to shore up if we want to progress past next week in the playoffs.”
