Senior running back Cody Cotton had the hot hand for Union Grove in their conference championship clinching victory over Lake Geneva Badger on Friday night. Cotton ran for 209 yards and four touchdowns in the 27-22 win.
With 4:35 remaining in the first quarter, Kegan Huber got the scoring going with a one-yard touchdown run to give Lake Geneva Badger the lead. Later in the quarter, Cotton responded with the first touchdown of the game with a 58-yard score to tie the game.
After a scoreless second quarter, Lake Geneva Badger regained the lead as Huber connected with Jacob Needle on a 24-yard touchdown pass before Cotton added an 11-yard rushing touchdown to tie the game heading into the fourth quarter. With 10:22 remaining in the fourth quarter, Cotton added his third score of the game with a 36-yard run to give Union Grove their first lead of the game.
Badger responded as Cole Berghorn added a one-yard run with a successful two point conversion to regain a 22-21 lead. With 3:10 to go in the game, Cotton added his final score of the game with a 46-yard rushing touchdown to give Union Grove the win.
Union Grove clinches the Southern Lakes Conference crown with the win as they improve to 8-1 on the season, while Lake Geneva Badger goes to 6-2. Union Grove travels to Elkhorn, while Badger hosts Delavan-Darien in the final week of regular season action next week.
