Area boys basketball teams Racine Case Eagles and Westosha Central Falcons fell one game short of the ultimate goal this season. Both teams suffered semifinal losses at the state tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison this weekend.

Eagles comeback falls short

Racine Case started out cold in their Division 1 state semifinal loss as Neenah jumped out to an 11-2 lead before taking a 29-18 lead at the half. Terryon Brumby used nine straight points in the second half to cut the Neenah lead to nine with six minutes left before the Eagles cut the lead to two with a 7-0 run with about three minutes left in the game. 

Brumby kept them within distance late cutting it down to three with less than a minute to go before Chevalier Emery Jr. closed the game out at the line. Case made 19 shots in the game and shot 3-for-15 from the three-point line and went 11-for-15 from the free-throw line in the 60-52 loss. 

Brumby led the way with 14, while Adrian Bryant and Amari Jedkins both had 13 for the Eagles. Jedkins also had eight rebounds, while Termarion Brumby had seven in the loss. J.J. Paider led the way for Neenah with 17, while Emery Jr. had 16 as Case’s opponent made 21 shots in the game with six coming from the three-point territory. 

Terryon Brumby scored 532 points for the Eagles this season, while Jedkins had 472 and also had 235 rebounds. Racine Case ends their season at 22-7. 

Falcons lose heartbreaker

The Westosha Central Falcons boys basketball team saw their season end late. The Falcons were a Jack Rose layup away from reaching the state championship game.

Both teams went into the half tied at 25 before Westosha Central grabbed a 48-38 lead with six minutes to go. La Crosse Central responded using a 14-3 run to close the game as they knocked a three down to take the lead before Rose missed a layup with five seconds left in the game. 

Westosha Central made 20 shots in the game with only two coming from three-point range and shot 9-for-12 from the free-throw line in the loss. Jack Rose and Kenny Garth both had 18 points in the game, while Michael Mulhollen had 11 rebounds for the Falcons. 

La Crosse Central made 23 shots including four from three-point range as Devon Fielding led the way with 20 points, while Noah Compan had 17. 

Rose led the way for the Falcons with 572 points this season as he averaged 20 points per game on the year, while Wyatt Anderson led the team in rebounds with 189. The Falcons finish their season at 25-3.
