RAYMOND – Voters in the Raymond School District will be asked to consider a $14.8 million bond issue to finance multiple improvements to the Raymond Elementary School, 2659 76th St. The referendum question will be on the Spring Election ballot for Tuesday, April 5.
The school, which currently has an enrollment of 437, was constructed in sections in the years 1961, 1965 and 1966. A successful 2014 referendum added a new gymnasium and remodeled the library, science lab, music and band rooms.
What the Raymond School District Referendum Will Cover
Most of the new referendum proceeds will focus on improving the infrastructure of the existing buildings, including:
- Installation of new roofing
- Replacing boilers and mechanical equipment
- Replacing and improving kitchen/cafeteria equipment
- Upgrading the septic system
- Bringing the school’s facilities up-to-date and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The project would also construct a new baseball field on the school grounds and provide expanded parking.
If approved by voters, the construction would start in the summer of 2023 and take about 10 to 12 months for completion.
The bond issue would be repaid over 20 years with increases in local property taxes. Estimated total annual property tax collections would increase from $2.9 million to $3.8 million.
