RACINE – Starting next Wednesday, April 6, Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin (VOW) will extend the hours of the food pantry it operates at 1624 Yout Street.
The pantry’s new Wednesday hours will be noon to 7 p.m. The pantry’s Tuesday and Thursday hours will remain at noon to 4 p.m.
The lengthened hours are in response to grocery price inflation that is affecting many veterans and their families. VOW organizers chose to extend the pantry hours to be better able to serve veterans who are working on weekdays. Zach Zdroik, VOW executive director, reported that staff members will monitor the pantry usage to determine if the hours should be changed on the other days.
The VOW food pantry receives its food donations from businesses, veterans’ groups and private citizens. It serves about 400 to 450 local veterans. To use the pantry, veterans and surviving spouses must provide proof of veteran status and register in advance.
