The average number of Racine County residents who obtained abortions between 2018 and 2020 were overwhelmingly white and over the age of 25.
A report from the state Department of Health Services released in May 2022 details the number of induced abortions Wisconsin residents received in 2020 at state medical facilities. The 28-page document does not include any Wisconsin residents who may have traveled to Illinois for an abortion.
Racine County residents who wanted to obtain an abortion have never had access to a provider in the county and instead had to travel to Milwaukee, Sheboygan, or Illinois. Now, county residents can only travel to a neighboring state like Illinois, where abortion remains legal despite the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 2022 decision.
