Obituary for Shirley M. Sobieski
June 18, 1935 – April 30, 2023
Our dear mother, Shirley Mary Sobieski, passed away peacefully, at the age of 87, on April 30, 2023, at Elder Care Cottages of Waterford.

Shirley was born in South Milwaukee, Wis., the youngest of seven children, to Stanley and Leona Brodzik on June 18, 1935.
Shirley graduated from South Division High School in 1953 and afterward enjoyed working at several different retail stores during her lifetime. Her last full-time and then part-time employment was working at the Southridge Boston Store until she was 82 years old. Our mother was an amazing woman in so many ways!
She raised six children on a hobby farm in Muskego and we were fortunate to have homemade meals and baked goods almost every day; something she taught all of us to do. She is best known for her famous cheesecake, so delicious that the joke was that she couldn’t walk into our family gatherings without it.
Shirley was a strong healthy woman her entire life who loved riding her bicycle, gardening, and going for long walks with her kids into her eighties. She especially loved playing with “Junior,” her grandson, Clayton Sobieski. Five years before her death, dementia began to take part of her away, but she always kept her sense of humor by making jokes and being silly. She was a favorite of the caregivers at Elder Care Cottages of Waterford!
What Shirley will be most remembered for is her pleasant personality, sweetness, and cute sense of humor, all of which made her such a wonderful mother. Our mother provided stability, kindness, and love to all her children and anyone lucky enough to have known her. She will be greatly missed!!!
Shirley is survived by her remaining children, Denise Marie Sobieski (Bill Mitchell), John Sobieski Sr. (Tina Mayer), Roseann Campbell (Kent), William Sobieski (Yvonne), and Stephen Sobieski (Jodi). Shirley is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her beloved son, James Michael Sobieski.
