Obituary for Bette Ann Spoden

Bette Ann Spoden, 93, passed away at her home on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

Bette was born in Milwaukee on Jan. 9, 1930, to Robert and Nina Schmidling. She married Robert Spoden on Aug. 3, 1972. He preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 2017.

Bette and Bob moved to Hayward in the 70s and resided there for over 30 years. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and taking Sunday rides through the woods with Bob, having rummage sales as well as going to them, and decorating for the holidays. Bette always liked to look nice no matter what she was doing.

She will be missed by her loving daughter, Kathie Barlow; grandsons, Chris (Sarah) and Jamie (Traci) Barlow; and granddaughter, Laurie Wattelet; great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Cameron, Kenzie, Tyler, Layton and Candace; great-great-grandchildren, Addison, Ellie, Alex and Ellis; and sister, Doris Klawitter. Bette is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Nowak, daughter, Debbe Nowak, and brother, Robert Schmidling.

Services

Private family services for Bette will be held. Inurnment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery on Highway 32.

Bette’s family would like to thank the staff at ProMedica Hospice for the exceptional care given to Bette.
