Obituary for U. S. ‘Ted’ Hodges

September 17, 1939 – May 24, 2023

U. S. “Ted” Hodges, 83, completed his earthly journey on May 24. He was born in Houston, Miss., on Sept. 17, 1939, the son of the late Muldrow and Mora (nee: Hill) Hodges.

Ted had been employed by the J.I. Case Co. and by Racine Transit. He was a member of Starlight Outreach Ministry, under the leadership of Pastor John Thomas. He was an avid fisherman and hunter; he also gave back to his community with Big Brothers and other civic organizations.

Surviving are his children, Harry Griffis of Springfield, Ill., Gwen Hodges of Racine, Rodney Hodges of Waipahu, Hawai’i, and Mary (Larry) Mack of Augusta, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Vivian Hodges of Augusta, Ga.; granddaughters, Kimberly Griffis, Daisy Griffis, Tamara Griffis, Toccara Jacobs, and Tiarra Hodges-Myers; grandsons, Antoine Wilson, Antonio Hodges, and Romello Mason; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Samuel Matthews of Rolling Fork, Miss., and Thomas Brinker of Springfield, Ill.; special nephew, Marraco Hodges of Orlando, Fla.; former wife, Tina Hodges of Racine; special and dedicated friend, Sandra Thomas; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his brothers, James (Essie) Spicy, M.L. Hodges, Mallie Pulliam, and John Wesley (Alma Grace) Pulliam; sisters, Olivia Baldwin, Lucy (John) Sherrod, Willie Mae Brinker, Callie Hodges, Carrie Matthews, and Debra Hodges-West.

Services

His homegoing service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 10 at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, with Pastor John Thomas officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service starting at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park.
