Obituary for Jason Demetrius Hunter

May 21, 1975 – May 27, 2023

Jason Demetrius Hunter, 48, of Racine passed away unexpectedly on May 27 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.

Jason was born in Racine on May 21, 1975, the son of JoAnn (nee: Hunter) and the late Hugh E. Hattix.

As a child, Jason enjoyed playing football and basketball. He was a member of the Southside Center Basketball Team, attending their last reunion in 2022. He attended Washington Park and J. I. Case High School. Jason was baptized at an early age and attended Second Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Mack C. Davis.

He really cherished the time spent with his family and friends. His catchphrase, “What you doing,” will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Jason enjoyed playing his Xbox games with his family and friends online, along with watching a good basketball game.

Left to cherish Jason’s memory are his daughter, Nijeria B. Hunter; mother, JoAnn Hattix; brother, Ahmad Hattix; aunts and uncle, Pamela Anderson, Rosalind “Rockey” Thomas, William A “Billy” (LaVetta) Hunter, and Cheryl (Galen) Nelson; great-aunts and uncle; Julia Walters, Mary A. Kern, Ola Anderson, and Herbert Anderson; godmother, Maggie Cobb; special cousin, Mary Simpson; cousins, Jamaal, Taylor, Enous, Calen, Kristyn, Joseph, Tyus, and Tyler; great-cousins, Elijah Sr., Tela, Donovan, E’Shawn, Taylnn, Eniyah, La’Montae, Corianna, and Brooklynn; great-great-cousin, Elijah, Jr.; special friends, Donald K. Bostick, Tobias Wright, Kelley Williams, and Armared Howell; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jason is preceded in death by his father, Hugh E. Hattix; grandparents, William E. and Nettie Hunter, Charles and Annette Hattix; and sister, Shonda Hattix.

Services

Homegoing services for Jason Demetrius Hunter will be held at 4 p.m. on June 10, 2023, at the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Gayle Shaw, who served as his caregiver and good friend for many years. Thank you to the entire team at the Milwaukee Rehabilitation Center, DaVita Kidney Care and the staff at Froedtert Hospital for the loving and professional service Jason received while under their care.
