Obituary for Justine Lavern Terry

March 6, 1959 – May 31, 2023

Justine Lavern Terry passed suddenly at her home in Atlanta, Ga., on May 31. Justine was born March 6, 1959, to Eugene and Florence Terry in Sebree, Ky. In August 1962 they relocated to Racine.

Justine enjoyed growing up in Racine where she had many friends. She loved playing softball with the Black Aces. Justine received her education at Park High School, Walden and Gateway. She attended Pima College in Mesa, Ariz., where she received her certification as a medical assistant in 2009. Justine worked for many years at Johnson Wax and Western Publishing in Racine.

She is survived by her daughter, Dazetta Terry; grandchildren, Jeyda Joiner, Jaunte Joiner, Amielle Terry Powell, Amiel Terry Powell; son, Kelvalust Odell Terry; grandchildren, Jordan and Kairo Terry. She is further survived by her mother, Florence O. Terry; sisters, Rev. Ozetta (Prentiss) Kirby, and Henrietta Terry Barkley; brothers, Cyril Terry, and Eugene (Rosemary) Terry; special nieces and nephews, Prentice Price, Leslie (Rev. Eric) Taylor, Latanya (Robert) Topps, Kent Kirby, Lashay Cain, Ernest (Shinieka) Barkley, Jawaun Barkley, Dekira (Marcus) Weddle, Damien (Erin) Terry, and Natasha Carroll. Justine shared a very special and loving bond with her niece Leslie D. Taylor. 

Preceding Justine in death were her twin sisters, Marilyn and Marlene Terry; father, Eugene Thomas Terry; grandparents, Daisy and Odell Shelton, and Grant and Nadine Terry; aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

Rest in Heaven, Justine. We all love you and it will endure forever, including numerous friends and special friend, Beverly Simpson.

Services

Family and friends are invited to meet from 10 to 11 a.m. on June 16 at Wayman AME Church for visitation. A service celebrating Justine Lavern Terry’s life and homegoing will follow at 11 a.m.
