Ellie was born on Dec. 11, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Nile and Jessie Barcalow. She lived much of her life in the eastern half of Ohio. She went to John H. Lehman High School in Canton, Ohio. Ellie married Thomas L. Motta on April 24, 1974, in Beaufort, S.C.

She loved being a homemaker and being able to welcome her kids and husband home and hear about their days. She was always interested in the details of her family’s days and helping with homework when possible. Her love of reading was passed on to her daughter Heather.

Some of the things she loved were listening to music from the ‘50s to the ‘80s, reading (didn’t matter if it was the paper, a magazine, or a good nonfiction book – especially historical books), animals (especially dogs), being around family (when possible) and hearing from her son Tom A. about how sports teams from Ohio were doing. Her favorite shows to watch were “The Waltons,” “NCIS” and “Law & Order.”

Ellie was a loving wife, mother and grandma, and is survived by her mother, Jessie Totten; husband, Thomas L Motta; son, Thomas A. Motta; daughter, Heather (Josh) Schueller; grandchildren, Jason and Jarad Schueller; sister, Nila Dedmon; nephew, Johnny Dedmon III; and nieces, Kathy Anderson and Zephyr Kobie.

She is preceded in death by her father, Nile K. Barcalow; sister, Nancy Anderson; and brother, Clyde (Sonny) Winfield Barcalow.
