Obituary for LaVerna Jean Peppers-Williams

April 27, 1953 – June 12, 2023

LaVerna Jean Peppers-Williams, a retired schoolteacher and a lifelong resident of Racine, was called home unexpectedly by her Loving Savior on June 12. LaVerna was the daughter of the late Northern and Zenobia (nee: Horton) Peppers II.

LaVerna was employed with Racine Unified School District for over 39 years, retiring June 7, 2014. She accepted Christ at an early age. She united with New Omega Baptist church under the leadership of Pastor Fred L. Richmond Sr., a member of the Racine Area Retired Educators Association, and the Wisconsin Retired Educators Association. LaVerna enjoyed attending Zumba classes, golfing, and shopping.

LaVerna is survived by her husband, James H. Williams; stepchildren, Alicia Richard, Shatonya Evans, Joshua Evans, and Tori Johnson; two brothers, Gregory (Cindy) Peppers and Michael (Rosalind) Peppers; mother-in-law, Mary (Richard) Friday; sisters-in-law, Barbara Douglas and Rosalind Williams; brothers-in-law, Anthony Williams, and Benard Friday; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Debra Ross, Valencia Brown, Sue Schwallier, Faye Brown, and Miguel Figueroa; her two loving feline companions, Sam and Shuggie-Shuggie, and a host of former students, co-workers, and friends.

Services

A homegoing service for LaVerna Jean Peppers-Williams will be held at 10 a.m. on June 24 at New Omega Baptist Church. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. The church encourages masks to be worn. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Aurora St. Luke’s, Milwaukee for their kind and compassionate care.
