Obituary for Wayne Lee Jackson

June 11, 1956 – July 13, 2023

Wayne Lee Jackson, affectionately known as “Big Twist,” age 67, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at his residence. He was born in Chicago Heights, Ill., on June 11, 1956, the son of the late Hezzie K. and Dorothy A. (Nee: Watkins) Jackson.

Wayne attended Bloom High School in Chicago Heights. He had worked at Kenosha Beef, Unified Solutions in Kenosha, and The African American Museum in Waukegan, Ill. He moved to Racine 20 years ago to be close to family and most recently moved to Milwaukee where he resided for the past two years.

Wayne was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed rooting for his beloved Chicago teams. He will be remembered as a history buff and as one who enjoyed sharing a joke. His interests included the philosophy of Islam, old-school cars, old-school music, and jazz. Above all, he treasured time spent with family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his sister, Cheryl Jackson of Denver, Colo.; brother, Michael (Stacie) Jackson of Kenosha; sister-in-law, JoAnn Jackson; nieces and nephews, Cherae Davis, Alonzo Keener, Marquel Brayboy, Theodore Jackson, Nasyr Jackson, Pyreanna Jackson, Amari Jackson, Amanda Sardin, Tiffany Daniels, Amber Daniels, and Tracy Daniels; a host of cousins, other relatives and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by brothers, Timothy Jackson and Thomas Jackson; and his lifelong friend, Shelia Wells.

Services

Visitation will be held at the Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home from 10 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023. A service will follow at 11 a.m.
