RACINE, WI — A call for shots being fired Aug. 19 led to the arrest of a 21-year-old Racine man on two criminal charges.
Deandre Williams is charged with a felony count of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct with the use of a dangerous weapon.
The felony carries a maximum prison term of 10 years and a $25,000 fine.
Williams is free from custody on a $500 cash bond and a $5,000 signature bond. He’s due back in Racine County Circuit Court on Oct. 9, for a 9 a.m. status conference.
Shots fired call leads to arrest
According to the criminal complaint:
Racine Police were dispatched to the area of 17th and Villa streets at about 9:06 p.m. in reference to a shots fired call.
Officers on the shots fired scene found four spent shell casings on the back porch of a residence on Villa Street. One of the officers then made contact with Williams, who originally stated he had fired the gun off the back porch a few weeks earlier.
Williams stated the four casings that were located were from that incident. A check revealed that Williams does not have a valid Concealed Carry License.
When asked if the casings were from the shots fired incident a few weeks earlier, Williams initially said “yes,” but then shook his head and said they weren’t. Williams then said some were from Aug. 19 and he shot them toward the water because “(people) pulled up, and they were trying to scare me,” according to the complaint.
Police searched the defendant’s bedroom and found a magazine to a 9mm handgun on the floor, along with a box to a Taurus handgun. Inside a closet, police found a firearm and an extended magazine stuffed between the wall and the ceiling.
After he was taken into custody, police found a live 9mm round in Williams’s pants pocket.
