Travel on Highway 38/State Street is either going to turn into more of a headache or mean an easier commute, depending on how individual residents feel about roundabouts.
A public information meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Paul II Academy, 2023 Northwestern Ave.
Roundabouts to replace traffic lights are planned in three locations along Highway 38/State Street because of the odd angles at which the roadway crosses Spring Street, Memorial Drive, and Albert/High Street, according to a story from The Journal Times.
The state Department of Transportation is proposing the Spring Street and Albert/High Street projects as part of an overall reconstruction between Golf Avenue and Memorial Drive. The City of Racine applied for a grant to fund the Highway 38/Memorial Drive project, the story reads.
DOT projects are scheduled for 2016, and if all goes according to plan for the city, construction of the proposed roundabout at Memorial Drive will be underway by 2018.
