Having celebrated 58 years of marriage, Don and Willy Betts spend most of their days together volunteering at the Hospitality Center, gardening and cooking.
Their courtship began when they were students at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. But when Willy met Don, he was dating her best friend. When they were headed to a game, Don’s girlfriend fell ill and Willy asked if she could tag along with the rest of the group that was going.
Don couldn’t get Willy off of his mind and he broke up with his girlfriend to date Willy. Don says they spend much of their time together. And after all of these years, it’s just easier to get along, Willy says.
“You know when it’s right,” she said.
