More jobs are expected in Mount Pleasant now that a $7.5 million expansion of Seda International Packaging has been approved.

The Village Board and Community Development Authority unanimously approved a $250,000 grant for the addition that will add over 60 jobs to the area, a story in The Journal Times reads.

The addition is designed to be between 125,000 and 150,000 square feet, bringing its total operating space to between 488,000 and 513,000 square feet.

Seda is an Italian company that moved its first North American location into the village five years ago with a $75 million investment and a promise of 189 jobs. There are currently 126 employees at Seda, and the company expects to add another 60 or so once the expansion is complete, the story continues.

Logan Martin, community development director, told the newspaper that Seda needs a bigger operation to serve customers on the East Coast. The grant helped convince company leaders to grow here instead of build a new location out east.

Work on the addition is expected to begin later this summer and complete next spring.
