Donate to our local news fund, help a nonprofit
We’re on a mission in 2022 to work on a year-long series about housing in Racine County and we need your help to fund it. For every $250 in donations that we receive, we’ll give a nonprofit one free month in advertising.
A group of people who say they are merely showing their support for America are planning a rally Oct. 10 against Islam at the Muslim Center of Racine.
The rallies are organized by an anti-Muslim group called the Global Rally for Humanity, a story at rawstory.com reads. The rallies are also inviting participants to open carry their permitted weapons.
The date is widely believed to have been chosen because it’s the same day as the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March and the “Justice or Else” event planned in Washington, D.C. featuring Louis Farrakhan as the keynote speaker.
The reason for the Racine rally, according to the event detail, is to “stand up to the anti-human tyranny of Islam.”
“We’ll see you at the Muslim Center of Racine … in support of Ole Glory, our American Heritage, our blood-bought Freedoms, and our American way of life,” the invitation reads. “Farrakhan’s hate and promotion of inter-ethnic strife is a wake up call. Now is the time to act. Now is the time to save our Republic.”
The Racine event is described as an anti-Islam, pro-American rally where open carry is encouraged. The rally has been posted on Facebook since Aug. 18, and impassioned notes both for and against the rally were visible Friday but posts against the rally were removed by Saturday afternoon.
Faith leaders from the Racine Interfaith Coalition might also be present to counter-protest like they did when Westboro Baptist Church visited the area last December.
Racine County Eye has messages into both the Racine Police Department and the Muslim Center, and we will update this story when we hear from them.
